Creative, Productive Jewelry Organizing Can Be Yours

Have you ever gotten a chain tangled in another because it got mixed up in a drawer? Or, have you ever lost an earring that you are positive you had in your left ear when you got home? Let’s face it, women know where a lost earring might be.

So that favorite hair comb is special, right? It deserves TLC.And accessories, over time, even affordable accessories, can be quite an investment--to say nothing of Grandma’s pearls.

OK, so we have consensus! Enter the thousands of professional organizers that tell us how to organize, and come to our homes, and organize, and come to our offices, and organize, and, well you know. And then they write about us. With all due respect, after a while they sound kind of the same; get a bin, donate--you know. Even those with the neatest places feel as if they should organize.

So enter Marie Kondo, author and TV and social media phenomenon, who has made her own mark in the organization industry. Her New York Times Best Seller, the life-changing magic of tidying up, has really taken organizing to a new level.

Breaking News: Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, the acclaimed Netflix series, has brought no less than Jennifer Garner, mother of three, into the fold (pardon the pun) by wanting to implement the KonMari methodology into her daily life.

But we at The Wish Pearl are all about jewelry, and that is the focus of this article. And we are going to take Marie Kondo’s advice because we want your precious items to last forever.

Here are a couple of basic techniques, which are:

1. Sorting

Taking out everything you have of like kind and dealing with it all at once, breaking it down further by categories if needed. BUT, do everything all at once. Do not deviate from this. Spread it out on a table or on the floor. If you must stop for some reason, leave it there until you are done and do not start any new organizing.

2. Storing everything vertically.

To begin, sort and identify unrepairable, broken pieces. Why might someone save a broken piece of jewelry? Crafts come to mind. So put it with your crafts (where it belongs, right?). Sort what you haven’t worn in the last 12 months. Donate those pieces, but be careful not to donate an heirloom, and do not donate that to which you are sentimentally attached.Having said that, anything you haven’t worn in 12 months that you are keeping should be put in a separate area from your day-to-day jewelry. Do this first to get it out of your line of sight.

The remaining jewelry should be stuff you wear everyday or have worn in the last year or so. Sort it by earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and so on.Some people sort it by season, or by color.Get it as tightly categorized as you can.

Remember vertical, according to the world of KonMari? Create a beautiful space on a wall or a door that is presently unencumbered with something else. This keeps your jewelry separate and adds to your ambiance. It would be nice, for example, to set off your Wish Pearl hearts and LOVE pendants in one spot so you can see them sparkle on a wall that has a lot of light.

The KonMari method allows for creativity while organizing, which can make it fun. You do it yourselfers can make your own hanging organizers. Ideas are everywhere.

So how do you hang earrings? You can make a kind of wall hanging and hook them or otherwise attach them onto that. You can spot a missing earring or an errant pair of earrings by sight in an instant. Own a couple of The Wish Pearl hair combs? A small box can be utilized with dividers allowing for vertical storage.
